CS SERIES CARTRIDGES

There are a variety of cartridge types. The two most common are wound cartridges and pleated cartridges. Wound cartridges are made from a continuous length of yarn that is continually wrapped around a core. Pleated cartridges are made by folding a flat material horizontally around a core—like an air filter in a car.

Cartridges are made to various micron sizes. The sizing ranges from 0.2 microns to 150 microns. The sizing is determined by how close the pores in the cartridge are spaced. The smaller the pore sizes the smaller the sediment size that will be captured by the cartridge.

There are two ratings for cartridges: absolute and nominal. Absolute rated cartridges will not allow any sediments or other particulates which are larger than the micron size of the cartridge to pass through. Nominal rated cartridges will allow some sediment that is larger than the specified micron size to pass through. The important question is what percentage of sediment that is higher than the micron size of the cartridge will pass through. There is a huge price difference between absolute and nominal cartridges. On average, an absolute cartridge cost almost 10 times a nominal cartridge with the same micron size.

  • The CS series cartridges are wound cartridges. We have chosen this type of cartridges because of its ability to provide depth filtration without being blinded off by fine silts and clays.

  • The CS Series cartridges are manufactured using Microprocessor controlled electric motors. This allows much tighter control of the winding pattern throughout the process. Other wound cartridges are manufactured with mechanical winding machines.

  • The CS Series cartridges are very efficient nominal rated cartridges. These cartridges reach maximum efficiency at a much faster rate then other nominal rated cartridges. Yet, the price differential between the CS Series cartridges and standard nominal rated cartridges is less than 50%.

  • The higher retention of the CS Series cartridges is not only based on the microprocessor controlled winding technology. The cartridges use an absolute rated cover around the core. The core cover acts as a final barrier to sediments. Sanopreme gaskets cover the ends of the cartridge to prevent by-pass around the edges. This forces the water to pass through the absolute rated core cover.

The CS Series cartridges are listed as a "Best Available Technology" and "Best Management Practice" by the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board.
